How does the site work?
The site offers coverage in depth of a defined range of
management topics - those directly related to the management
of change in organisations. The listing of articles
distinguishes which topics are covered in depth and which
are relatively peripheral. For the selected subject areas,
the user gets:
- An independent and expert view of each book
listed
- Comparison between books within a field, with
commentary on what each adds to knowledge and practice in
its field
- A current listing of other materials useful in each
field, including Internet sites, Bulletin Boards and
sources of Journal and magazine articles and a listing of
books not (or not yet) reviewed, extracted from
publishers' lists
- The opportunity to contribute to the range of
resources offered in each field.
The site makes use of the increasingly sophisticated
facilities on amazon.com and is complementary to it. The
links provided to amazon.com allow the user to get
alternative views of each book discussed, as well as to buy
it if they wish.
The articles
(currently 43 of them) form the core of the site and, for
most people, are the best starting point in a search. They
are supported by an alphabetical listing of key words, which
directs users to the most relevant topic article. The
linking system will be developed further, based on feedback
from users.
The core site is fully accessible to anyone, without
subscription. It can be linked to organisational intranets
and material from the site can be downloaded or reprinted.
Acknowledgement of the source of this material is
requested.
What's happening with the site
now?
We used to be bookwatch.com.au. The new site has now been
completely redesigned, the subscriber newsletter has been
reintroduced and a separate section of the site is nearly
ready for subscribers. We will also continue to enhance the
content on the basic site - for example, we have begun
loading material from publishers' lists.
Why should I take a
subscription?
Change Management Monitor is a knowledge product.
It can save managers, consultants and researchers hours of
work by providing an organised starting point and, often,
all you need to know about an issue or topic. It also
represents a very large time input to build and maintain.
The subscription system is modelled on the concept of
'shareware'. You can use the basic site without charge, but
you get added value and an enhanced product by paying a
modest annual subscription. You also help to ensure
continuation and expansion of the site content and
coverage.

What do subscribers get?
Subscribers receive a newsletter by email every few
weeks. The newsletter lists and summarises new material on
the site, including reviews of material from leading
journals and other sources, and commentary on other useful
sites.
A section of the site accessible only to subscribers is
growing all the time. It contains:
- detailed book summaries of selected books which are
especially useful to managers. These go beyond the review
to give an extended summary of the content of the
book.
- a range of analytical materials, including articles
on the way in which different authors treat a field such
as strategic planning, and presentation material. A
sample of an article can be seen here.
Access will be by way of a password which will be
regularly notified to subscribers.

Who writes the reviews?
Bill
Godfrey, an experienced management consultant based in
Australia, writes most of the reviews and edits and
maintains the site. His consulting experience of managing
change in organisations dates from 1964 to the present and
includes five years at top management level in a major
Australian public sector organisation as well as years of
consulting to top managers.
Other reviewers contribute as well.
Can I contribute to the
site?
Reviews by site users are very welcome. Also welcome are
commentary, disagreement or expansion of reviews already on
the site. Reviews should be submitted to Bill
Godfrey, who will edit them, seek your approval to any
editorial changes, and upload them to the site. Please
include all publisher details (as shown in the short reviews
on the site) with any review.
We are also interested in suggestions for books to be
included and magazines and journals to be monitored. Please
supply as much detail as possible to identify the
material.
Submission of useful sites is also welcome, preferably
with a brief comment on what you find valuable about the
site. We do not, however, list sites that are solely
concerned with promoting the services of an organization or
a person.
Does the site have advertising or
cookies or pass your details to others?
The site carries no advertising and is completely
independent of commercial support other than subscriptions.
While some revenue is derived from sales of books through
Amazon.com, when sourced through the site, we have no
interest in promoting individual books. No subscriber
information is passed to any other party and we do not
contact subscribers except on issues directly related to
subscriptions or subscriber requests for information.
No cookies or similar code are used except for counting
site hits as a measure of usage by topic area and to allow you to log in.
